The Cartersville Purple Hurricane Baseball Team finished 3-1 at Perfect Game’s High School Showdown invitational tournament. The Canes opened up the tournament with a 8-2 win over Montverde Academy (FL). After falling to the tournament runner-up, Gulliver Prep by a score of 6-0, the Hurricanes took care of the next two opponents defeating McEachern High School 6-2 and IMG Academy 7-4. Five of the Canes players were named to the All-Tourney Team by Perfect Game.
Seven different players pitched during the 4 games of the tournament, combining for a team ERA of 3.11, 21 strikeouts, and only 12 earned runs on 25 hits over the 4 games against some of the best high school talent in the Southeast. Jacob Fowler, Mason Barnett, and Anthony Seigler were all named to the All-Tournament Team as pitchers. Anthony Seigler pitched a complete game against Montverde Academy to open the tournament for the Hurricanes, scattering 6 hits, 6 strikeouts, only 3 walks, and just one earned run. Jacob Fowler started the third game of the tournament against McEachern High School. He tallied 4 strikeouts to only one walk and 4 hits over his 5 scoreless innings pitched. Freshman Mason Barnett Pitched 4 perfect innings against national powerhouse IMG Academy before allowing 3 runs on 3 hits in the 5th. Elliot Anderson, Zach Yancey, Spencer Dickey, and Ian Inaba also saw innings on the mound for Cartersville during the tournament.
Noah Daniel and Elliot Anderson were named to the All-Tourney team for their accomplishments at the plate. Noah Daniel came alive with the bat, with a .429 average, 2 RBI’s, and 4 runs scored. Elliot Anderson ended the tournament going 3-10 at the plate with 2 RBI’s, 3 runs scored, and 3 walks. Cole Jamieson also had a big tournament hitting .545 (6-11) for the tournament with 3 RBI’s, 2 Runs, and 4 walks.
The Hurricanes will travel to 6A opponents Collins Hill and Mill Creek next week before opening region play at Gilmer High School on Tuesday March 22nd.
