The Canes Gymnastics team competed in the State Preliminary competition held at Dunwoody High School on Saturday, April 16. The Canes, along with more than a dozen other schools, qualified to the competition by meeting a minimum score throughout the season.
The team started on the floor exercise where Cameryn Wood (Sr), Anna Cooney (So), Anna Robinson (Fr), and Sydney Lauryn Barrett (Sr) competed routines. Robinson had the highest score of an 8.75. On the bars, Sarah Myrick (Sr), Amber Seymour (So), Robinson and Barrett competed with Barrett earning the highest score of 8.55. On the vault, Cooney, Seymour, Robinson and Barrett competed with Seymour earning the team high of 8.55. On the balance beam, Ashlin Borkowsky (Fr), Seymour, Robinson and Barrett competed with Barrett earning the team high of 9.05.
The top six teams qualified to the State finals in team competition. Although the Canes earned the highest team score of the season, they were not in the top six qualifying teams. Individuals were able to qualify based on event scores. Barrett qualified to compete as an individual on the balance beam at the State Finals which will be held at Westminster on Friday, April 22. Barrett was the State Gymnastics Beam Champion in 2013, her freshman season, and is looking to reclaim the title.
The State Preliminary Meet concluded the Canes’ 2016 season.
