Carroll, Cole, Donchev garner NAIA scholar-athlete honors

Cumberland wrestlers Matt Carroll, Evan Cole and Peter Donchev were named 2017 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes recently, as announced by the national office.

Student-athletes must be a junior or senior academically and maintain a 3.50 grade-point-average and above to be eligible for the award.

Donchev holds a 3.88 in management while Carroll carries a 3.65 in special education and Cole has a 3.53 in business administration.

Nine wrestlers named Academic All-MSC

Nine Cumberland wrestlers were named Academic All-Mid-South Conference, including seniors Matt Carroll, Nate Croley, Kyle Delaune, Peter Donchev, Orlando Nawade and Christian Varner along with juniors Evan Cole, Corey Daniels and Cody Johnson, as announced last week by the league office.

Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior and maintain a 3.25 grade-point-average and above to be eligible for the award. Cumberland has the most honorees among the nine conference schools.

Evan Cole – 3.53, business administration

Nate Croley – 3.30, special education

Corey Daniels – 3.37, management

Kyle Delaune – 3.34, business administration

Peter Donchev – 3.88, management

Cody Johnson – 3.37, management

Orlando Nawade – 3.33, mathematics

Christian Varner – 3.35, mathematics
