We will be course monitors for approximately 1 mile of the course through Atlanta. We are assigned to Zone 16. Below is a list of our duties and expectations sent from Atlanta Track Club:
The Zone 16 Course Monitor (CM) Responsibility
- To be stationed on the Course (Zone 16) at a designated location.
- To direct runners and assist police with keeping the course free of pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
- To contact appropriate resources in the event of a medical emergency.
- To cheer runners/participants on.
- To enjoy the race (the runners truly appreciate you!!).
Zone 16 Volunteers should meet me and QuoVadis at the corner of Pollard and Capitol Avenue which is one block north of the Olympic Rings on Capital Avenue. We will be wearing Atlanta Track Club Pullover Jackets. When you arrive you will receive last minute instructions, your official volunteer shirt, credentials and goodie bag.
Volunteer Check-In time
Check-in time is 7:45 a.m. at the location stated above. After check-in you will drive to your assigned location to wait for the runners to pass.
Each volunteer will be strategically stationed along the course. Most monitors will also have a police officer with or very close to them during the race. Their job is to direct traffic. As monitor, your job is to direct the runners. Location assignments will be based on the number of volunteers we have signed up prior to race day. Please be flexible!!!
There is ample parking along the course. No monitor should have a problem with parking.
This is a rain or shine event. Unless certain weather conditions are present, the race will go on. It is usually cold on race day at this time of morning. Therefore, you are encouraged to watch the weather reports as it gets closer to race day and dress accordingly. Wear comfortable shoes and warm clothes, including a hat and gloves. You might even want to bring something to sit on while waiting on the runners to come or during the down times as the runners pass. Again, we look forward to meeting and working with everyone.
