Cartersville pole vaulter Nick Bebko emerged as a sectional champion posting a winning vault of 12 feet, 6 inches in a Class 4A meet at Columbus. He was one of four Canes to qualify for this week’s 4A state meet, which will take place in Albany.

London Shaw finished as runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet, 2 inches, but the senior Jacksonville State signee barely snuck in the top-eight in the discus. Her throw of 97 feet, 11 inches beat out the ninth-place finisher by just seven inches.

The other Cartersville athletes set to compete in Albany are boys long-distance runners. Bill Archer had a fourth-place showing in the 1600 in 4 minutes, 38.67 seconds. Parker Breedlove grabbed the final berth in the 3200, finishing eighth in 10 minutes, 29.4 seconds.
