Wrestling Newsletter for Weeks of 11/17/2019 – 11/30/2019

Welcome to Weeks 3 and 4 of our competition season!!!  We enjoyed our first Duals Tournament of the season at Coosa High School last weekend, and are excited for our next couple of tournaments being duals as well!!!

Thanks to Bruno Ghanem of the Canes Vision Team for getting some great video of this weekend’s tournament and to Coach Putnam’s Canes Vision Classes for creating a highlight video for this past week’s events:

Team Communication Concerns: Problems with Blackboard Collaborate???
I have updated our team rosters and now everyone should be receiving the Blackboard Collaborate Emails/Texts when we send those out.  If you are having any problems receiving the emails, please let Coach Gayton know so we can get that resolved quickly.
Tournament Re-Cap of the Iron Eagle Duals @ Coosa HS
Overall, the Cartersville Varsity Boys finished 4th in the Iron Eagle Duals.  This was a 10-team dual tournament with the teams divided up into two pools and crossovers held for the championships.  Pool A: Cartersville, Trion, Model, Cedartown, Cherokee (AL).  Pool B: Coosa, Gordon Lee, Paulding, Dalton, Huntsville (AL).
Match Scores for the Day:
Cartersville 42 – 27 Trion
Cartersville 64 – 18 Model
Cartersville 36 – 42 Cedartown
Cartersville 63 – 6 Cherokee (AL)
Cartersville 42 – 42 Paulding Co.
Overall, we finished 4th in the tournament.  That wasn’t what our goal was, but we do feel like we got better this week.  It’s tough to win dual matches when you forfeit 3 weight classes.  We will certainly fill those weight classes when our football players join the team.  We wish them luck this week as they face Thomson in the 2nd round of the State Playoffs.Individual performances this weekend: Joshua Alvarez – 5-0 pin x 4, Jabril Williams – 5-0 pin x 4, Collin Buffaloe –  5-0 pin x 2,  Tyler Earick – 4-1 pin & tech, Caiden Tanner – 4-1 pin, Eoin Neal – 3-1 pin x 2, Grant Peters – 3-1 major, Lyle Forristall – 3-2 pin x 2, Jeffery Hannah – 2-0, Camden Geer – 2-1 pin, Jamie Altuzar – 2-2, Mack Morris – 2-3 pin x 2, Phil Rogers – 1-0, Jaylen Whatley – 1-0 pin, Zafna Aguilar – 1-1, Kevin Mejia – 1-2 pin

Thank you to all of our parents who came out to support the team!!!

Volunteer of the Week

Thank you to all the parents who donated items for the team to eat during our two events this past weekend!!!  Mr. and Mrs. Morris helped out by donating snacks and drinks for the team at the Iron Eagle Duals.  Thank you so much for the support!!!  We couldn’t do this every weekend without the wonderful support of parents like we have!!!

After Practice Clean-Up Duties

At the moment, all wrestlers are helping to clean up the room and locker room after practice, and the system is working.  As long as we continue to get the job done, we are not going to assign anyone to clean-up duty.  Keep up the good work everyone!!!
