The Cartersville boys used a 30-8 scoring advantage in the second quarter to cruise to a 68-53 win over Trion in the consolation semifinals of the AHS Tiger Christmas Clash Saturday in Adairsville.
Thanks to a trio of 3-pointers by Austin Mason, the Bulldogs claimed a 16-14 lead after the first quarter. However, a hugely impressive second period on both ends of the court allowed the Canes to eventually coast to victory.
With the win, Cartersville (3-4) will play Madison County (Alabama) at 2:30 p.m. Monday for fifth place.
Micah Tart led the second-quarter charge for the Canes, finishing with 10 points in the period. Robert Novak knocked down two treys in the stanza, while Kam Callahan and Marquail Coaxum also connected from deep.
Callahan had six of his 11 points in the third quarter to help Cartersville carry a 58-35 lead into the final period. After building a 30-point advantage, the Canes emptied their bench, allowing the Bulldogs to trim the margin over the last eight minutes.
Tart led all scorers with 20 points, while Novak and Kyler Johnson each had a dozen points for Cartersville.
