Wrestling Newsletter for Week of 1/11/2021 – 1/16/2021
Last week was a great week for the Cartersville Wrestling Program!!! Our Team gear finally came in and the guys and girls all looked great wearing it!!! We competed at Alexander HS on Thursday and went 3-1 on the night, defeating Hiram (a region opponent), Central Carroll (the defending region champion from our old region that we had not beaten before), and Hampton in a (1-0) forfeit due to how late the event was lasting. We were also able to pick up our first Traditional Tournament Championship at the Blue Devil Brawl @ Marietta HS!!! This week we are hosting the GHSA Region 7-AAAAA Duals Championship Tournament and we have been able to pick up a new tri-match on Thursday, so please read the newsletter for information regarding our schedule this week. If you have any questions, please email Coach Gayton at email@example.com . Thank you!
*Our Match on 1/20/2021 @ Chapel Hill has been CANCELLED!!! We have decided to hold our Team Picture Day on 1/20/2021 instead. We will be taking individual photos as well. Everyone is expected to bring their singlet, team shorts, team shirt, team sweatpants, and team hoodie to the event. Varsity team members will be expected to bring their team quarter zips as well (These will be issued this week). Individual photos may be taken in any team gear or uniform combination you would like, even the Grey (Finals Singlets). We will still practice afterwards until 6:15 that day, so bring some practice clothes too!!! All wrestlers have been given an envelope from Tonsmeire Studios to order any Photo Packages you would like. If you need another form, please let Coach Gayton know.

Summary of Duals @ Alexander HS (1/7/2021)
We had a good night of duals at Alexander HS last Thursday 1/7/2021, as we went 3-1 on the evening and were able to defeat Central Carroll HS (#7 in AAAA), Hiram (a Region 7-AAAAA Opponent), and Hampton (in a 1-0 forfeit due to how late we were out that night). We lost to Alexander HS (#4 in AAAAAA) but were able to get some great competition against last year’s State Runner-UP. We will continue to work to improve and hopefully see our team get stronger each week!!!
Cartersville finished 3-1 to place second in a five-team duals competition at Alexander. The Canes fell to the host Cougars (66-12) but defeated Hiram (64-12), Central of Carroll County (51-27) and Hampton (forfeit).
Neal and Shadre Hurst earned the only victories for the Canes against the hosts.
Against Hiram, which Cartersville could see again this coming week at the Region 7-AAAAA duals, Turner, Harris, Martinez, and Jackson Heilman all won via pin. Meanwhile, Rashun Hurst earned a major decision victory.
Neal, Jenkins, Rashun Hurst and Shadre Hurst each pinned their Central opponent. Alvarez added a win via major, and Turner won by technical fall.

*SET-UP for Region Duals – MANDATORY for ALL WRESTLERS!!! After practice, we will be setting up our gym for the Region Tournament. We have to put out the felt carpet in the Gym, move the mats out to the Gym Floor, tape the mats, set out the team chairs for duals, set up score tables, and mop the mats. Once we get these things done the team will be dismissed. It won’t take long if we all work together and get it done fast. I would estimate 1-1.5 hours. I will let the team know when to notify parents they are ready for pickup. Parents are welcome to come and help set up if you would like to help speed things up. I would estimate we will be ready for pick-up between 7:30 PM and 8:00 PM.
