The Cartersville Varsity Gymnastics team headed to Buford this past Friday for the GHSA State Preliminary Meet. While neither of the competitors were able to qualify for the state championship, this was a huge accomplishment for the first year varsity gymnasts. Sophomore Annaston Wilson qualified for preliminaries in floor and scored 8.6 on the event Friday. Freshman Karley Garrison qualified for the All-Around competition and was up against 26 AA-5A competitors. While Karley did not place in the top 8 to move on to State Finals, she did place in the top 15. Karley placed 14th All-Around with a score of 33.475. She held a 12th place spot in the floor event with 8.925 and 15th in bars with a score of 8.375.
“The competition was steep, and the Cartersville ladies held strong.” head coach Kimberly Mosteller stated, “I am proud of all the work the girls have done this year. We were competing against many athletes that train year-round. Our girls have only had two months of practice and were able to qualify for state prelims. I think that really says a lot about their talent and dedication. I am looking forward to next season and being able to grow this program. We have some incredible talent here in Cartersville and I am honored to lead them.”
